the minutiae

by Caroline

i talked to my dad just now, who wants to fix my broken computer and give it to a former client of his whose whole life is one long hard time.

i said how thoughtful it would be if my dad gave her the computer because she needs one so badly. he said, “yeah . . . but i’ll get even more jesus e-mail.” i laughed and told him how most of my friends from high school went through phases where they sent me jesus e-mail all the time. i politely requested that they stop, and they respected my wishes.

“it’s sort of nice, though,” i said. “they care what happens to me, and she cares what happens to you.”

“i guess,” he said. “how can she spend so much time thinking about the minutiae of make-believe?”
